Flamecrusher has been manufacturing high quality race gear in Tauranga, New Zealand, for over 25 years.

The Flamecrusher retail shop, as in 2009

The company was formed by Grand Ellwood in the 1980s. After running it successfully for over 10 years, he decided that it was time to expand the Flamecrusher name to the USA, and sold the New Zealand operation of Flamecrusher to Alan and Brenda Grant.

In 2006, Alan and Brenda sold half of Flamecrusher to Bernie Gillon, so as to increase the capital of the business. In 2007, Bernie bought the remaining 50% of Flamecrusher off Brenda and Alan, and moved the business to its current premises in Hynds Road. A joint venture by Bernie and Grant Ellwood in the USA consolidated the Flamecrusher brand worldwide.

The new Flamecrusher premises on Hynds Road include a fully equipped race-car workshop, as well as the factory where the suits are manufactured, and a retail shop (which stocks everything from driver apparel and safety gear to a full range of car parts).

In 2008,  Bernie travelled to the USA to meet with various safety experts, and came back having learned a lot about driver safety. Since then, Bernie has returned to the USA numerous times to learn more, and to keep up to date with current and new technologies that keep drivers safe. With this knowledge, Bernie has travelled to the far corners of New Zealand presenting the Flamecrusher Safety Seminar, informing drivers how to best protect themselves in any form of racing.

Today, Flamecrusher is still going strong at its Hynds Road premesis, making race suits for local and international customers, and Bernie continues to present the Flamecrusher Safety Seminar all over New Zealand.

The Flamecrusher Race and Performance Parts Shop has expanded considerably since 2007 and now holds in excess of $1.0 million dollars of V8 performance parts, with a New Zealand wide customer base these parts are couriered out daily and are replenished directly from the USA on a monthly basis .

The workshop has also expanded its focus from race car tuning and preparation to now also building and repairing classic American Cars. Our skilled workshop staff have gained a great reputation for quality restoration work and Vehicle Certification repairs on imported cars. Body filler (BOG) is not our prefered method of repair, we specialize in cutting, forming and welding panel steel and finishing it with a hammer and file.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about safety, or for an obligation-free quote on Suits, Safety Gear & Car Parts.
